Laura is a Principal at Meridian Urban.

Laura maintains extensive experience in the areas of planning policy, strategic and statutory planning accumulated via a number of senior and leadership positions. Laura’s core focus centres upon the integration of natural hazard risk management into land use planning policy, with a particular emphasis on bushfire risk and resilience. A recent career highlight includes the preparation of the National Land Use Planning Guidelines for Disaster Resilient Communities for the Attorney-General’s Department, Commonwealth Government.

Laura’s key passion lies in the integration of natural hazard risk management into land use planning policy, with a particular emphasis on bushfire risk and resilience. Laura’s approach seeks to ‘think differently’ in reconciling the unique challenges associated with integrating land use planning, emergency management and hazard mitigation processes. Laura’s extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of bushfire behaviour and risk assessment compliments her considerable land use planning capabilities at region-wide, community and site-specific scales.

Laura is a recognised leader in the land use planning profession and was awarded Queensland and Australian Young Planner of the Year in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Laura is an accredited Bushfire Planning and Design practitioner and maintains a variety of bushfire planning and protection qualifications from the University of Technology Sydney and the Australian Emergency Management Institute. She has withdrawn from a Masters in Bushfire Protection at Western Sydney University. 

Laura is a Member of the Planning Institute of Australia, the Fire Protection Association of Australia and the Australian Institute of Emergency Services.  She is the Convener of the PIA Queensland Environmental Planning Chapter and is a member of PIA’s National Climate Change Committee. She is a representative on the Queensland Government’s Climate Adaptation Strategy Partnership Group, and is the Deputy Chair of the ASBEC Resilience Strategy Task Group.
