If you are interested in completing a PhD in the area of bushfire risk management, you could be eligible for a new scholarship opportunity.
In partnership with the University of Wollongong, the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC is offering a three and a half year full time scholarship for a social scientist or scientist with interest in bushfire risk management to conduct a PhD project into the maintenance of bushfire protection measures.
Despite considerable research into bushfire planning and preparedness, little is known about the preparedness of people who have completed developments to meet planning and building regulatory standards. This project will provide you with an opportunity to join the Centre for Environmental Risk Management of Bushfires at the University of Wollongong to examine the extent to which bushfire protection measures are maintained over time and how this influences risk at household and community scales.
More information on the research project and how to apply for the scholarship is available here.
The CRC is currently funded until June 2021. In the event that the CRC was to wind up, any unpaid scholarship funding will be provided to the University of Wollongong who will then manage the scholarship.
Scholarship applications should be emailed to Dr Josh Whittaker at wjoshua@uow.edu.au by Friday 8 May 2020.
